You may (or may not) have noticed that I've been a little absent. And by little I mean, like a year. Whoops... Listen, I've been up to my eyeballs in renovations, picking paint colors and taking impromptu trips to IKEA. Mix that with a little every day, average craziness (wake, work, snooze and repeat), and you've got yourself the perfect recipe for an accidental hiatus. Et voila!
Which leads to my next point: our house! In July of last year, we bought our first house (and the crowd goes wild!). After searching for what felt like forever, but really didn't take very long at all, we found the perfect project. One we could really sink our teeth into while also not going bankrupt -- you understand. We knocked down a major wall, ripped out the awful "custom" cabinets and counter tops in the kitchen, tore off five (!!!!) different layers of vinyl flooring, and the list goes on and on.
My style has always been on the eclectic side -- I love rustic details like distressed wood and metal, but also am a sucker for bright colors and crazy patterns. So that makes for quite the mix! We both wanted to keep the beautifully historic details of the house in-tact as much as possible, while also adding our own touch. So while the built-in ironing board just couldn't stay (I know, I know...), we kept the French doors and original windows. It was built in 1931 most likely as a Sears house, although we're still doing some research on that.
So without further ado, meet our home!
Pheww.... It's been quite the undertaking! We've learned so many things and acquired a ton of new skills. As with any home, there will always be projects and we still have a bunch we'd like to finish. So stay tuned for more!
Would love to hear what you think of our home!
